Final project -- works in progress

My concept is alcoholism and how it is part of a daily routine.  I wanted to capture/document these bottles in their authentic places.  I originally thought about making some of the images blurry to convey the state of mind of the alcoholic, but as I was doing the project, I realized that it was not really about the alcoholic, but really myself and working through my emotions.  I included 8 images in the series, but I was not sure which ones to include or not, so if you have any suggestions that would be great.  I am also not sure whether I should do them in color or in black and white.  I posted the black and white because I like them better, but I am still not sure.

  1. I think this is a very strong series. It means a lot and has a very strong sense of struggle. Although I can't relate to this personally, I feel that this is very personable to many people and people I know. I think your strongest are the second and sixth pictures. They both seem very obvious but the viewer knows where it is and what is going on. I like the contrast in these, and the shadows and darks really emphasize the bottle.

  2. black and white emphasizes the shapes and the bottles might seem to camouflage more than color. color seemed harsher in some respects which might have emphasized your perspective and the idea that you are making the situation visible.

  3. I love how this series is coming along... I like how most of the pictures have dark darks so that it makes it harder for the viewer to distinguish between what should and shouldn't be there (alcohol bottle)... I really enjoy the images in black and white. my favorite image is probably the one with the bookcase

  4. I like that it is a documentation of something so real. Good concept. Maybe brighten some of the images a bit because some are a bit dark to notice the traces of alcohol bottles

  5. I think this is a really great concept and I think it's a new way to see the subject. You really show how alcohol becomes daily life too. Great job!

  6. Obsessed with black and white and definitely think you should keep them that way. The black and white almost portrays a sense of depression and anxiety that I believe comes along with alcoholism. I respect and appreciate the amount of self you are involving in this project and can only imagine how hard it is for these emotions to resurface every time you snap a photo.
My two favorites are the one in the drawer and the one in the cabinet with the rest of the cleaning supplies. I like that they are incorporated in everyday life but at the same time they are almost being hidden which a lot of alcoholics attempt...to hide their addiction.

  7. You are strong and brave, but it would benifit to be more more strong and brave. I understand your concept and idea, however, the current pictures, indicate just alcoholism and the placement of bottles. How do you and your personal struggles tie into it. If a viewer looks at the photo they won't see or have a trace of you, there aren't any photographys of you, or words, or human figures, etc.

  8. I still like your concept. I guess if you do the pictures all in b+w it maybe a little hard to find the bottle in the scene. So in order to focus on the bottle, you could try to make only the bottle colored and all of the rest of the pic b+w?
